What do I need to rent a bike?
In order to rent a bike, we request the following possible deposit options:
- One Identification Card for up to 4 bikes (National ID, Driver license or passport).
- A 450,- EUR cash/card deposit, due to the value of the bikes we offer.
- If you rent a bike with our theft and damage safety program, you only have to leave a 100,- EUR deposit instead of a 450,- EUR deposit (Per bike).
Please note; When a deposit is placed through the use of a card, it will take up to 2 or 3 working days to reimburse the deposit to your bank/credit card account (After the retrieval of the bike you rented).
How much does the bike theft and damage safety program cost?
The rates for the theft and damage safety program are:
Regular bikes (REDLIGHT anonymous etc.):
3 hours: 1,95 EUR
6 hours: 2,45 EUR
24 hours: 2,95 EUR
Special bikes (Tandem, CargoBike etc.)
3 hours: 3,90 EUR
6 hours: 4,90 EUR
24 hours: 5,90 EUR
What does the bike theft and damage program cover?
If you obtain the insurance while facing a theft, the insurance will cover 400,- EUR from the overall bike’s value. The bike’s value is 450,- EUR meaning, you’ll still need to pay an amount of 50,- EUR instead 450,- EUR.
If you or another damages the rented bike, it wouldn’t matter. Our damage program will cover it all!
Is it safe to park in Amsterdam's streets?
Yes. If you follow our instructions on how to safely lock your bik, the chances of a theft will be lowered. Although the possibility still being present, we offer a special bike theft and damage program (Strongly recommend).
Can I rent a bike without a credit card?
Yes! But don’t forget to always bring a valid Identification Card with you in order to leave behind as a deposit (Or a cash deposit will also be sufficient).
Do you accept credit cards in your bike rental shop?
We accept Mastercard, Visa, Maestro, American Express, V Pay, Visa Electron, JCB, Diners Club and China Union Pay.
We also accept contactless cards and phone payments by NFC, Apple Pay and Android.
Can we pay with cash in your shop?
Yes! Please keep in mind that you can only pay in EURO’S.
Only thing we don’t accept are 500,- EUR and 200,- EUR notes due to security reasons.
What are your opening hours?
Your City Bike is the shop with the longest opening hours in Amsterdam!

Do you provide locks with your bikes?
Yes! We provide two lock systems with every bike!
1st. A back-wheel lock which blocks the wheel by setting a bar through the frame.
2nd. A qualitative chain lock, in order to secure your bike to a fixed object.
We will also provide an explanation on how to use the lock systems before leaving the facility.
Cycling in Amsterdam
Is it safe to bike in Amsterdam?
It’s really safe (If you know how to cycle of corse). Please note; The bike traffic in Amsterdam might be chaotic therefor, we recommend to follow our advice. Explore Amsterdam by bike and avoid the rush hours on Monday to Friday mornings between 08:00 – 10:00am and in the afternoons between 16:00 – 18:00 in the afternoon.
What should I do if I haven't cycled in a while?
We recommend to walk around with the bike towards the biggest park in Amsterdam (Vondelpark) first and practice for at least an hour before heading towards the streets. The park is just a 5 minute walk away and has wide cycling paths. Which would be perfect to practice before your Amsterdam bike adventure!
For how long do you recommend to rent for?
We recommend to rent for your entire stay! Of corse you could also have a rental for only 3 or 6 hours and go for a ‘’bike ride’’ but, that’s not how people in Amsterdam do it. Amsterdammers use their bikes to get from point A to B, B to C, etc. It’s the most efficient plus sustainable way to travel inside and outside of the city and gives you the freedom on where you want to be at any given moment in time (1 pm or 1am, doesn’t matter). It will definitely make your stay in Amsterdam an unforgettable expierence.
Is it safe to park the bike outside in Amsterdam?
Yes, if you follow our instructions on how to safe lock your bike in the street the chance it will get stolen is small, but of course it’s still possible. Because of that, we offer a special bike theft and damage program, that we strongly recommend.
Can you recommend me where to go in Amsterdam by bike?
Yes! At our bike rental shop we will recommend you on where you can go and what you can do inside and also outside the city center of Amsterdam. Besides of that we’ll show you where you can’t park your bike and where you’re not allowed to cycle.
Do you provide maps with the rental bike?
Yes! We designed a completely new map, which shows more than just the center of the city, so you can also explore the non-touristic part of Amsterdam.
Do you rent the bikes with safety lights?
Yes. Al our bike are equipped with front and backlight. Before your departure we always check the lights, so you can also safely cycle when it gets dark outside.
Can we also cycle in the Vondelpark from your bike rental shop?
Yes! We recommend you first to bike to the museum square, where you will bike under the biggest museum in the Netherlands, than you can make a picture at the big I Amsterdam sign with the bikes and from there it’s a 3 minute bike ride to the Vondelpark.
What kind of bikes and accessories do you rent at your bike rental shop?
Do you rent single speed bikes?
Yes! We have all kind of different sizes available. Please note, the amount of the Singe speed bikes is limited, so if you’re looking to rent one, please contact us in advance.
Do you rent bikes with handbrakes?
Yes, most of our bikes are equipped with handbrake system.
Do you rent bikes with pedal brakes?
We also rent bikes with pedal brakes. Please note, the amount of pedal brake bikes is limited, so if you’re looking to rent one, please contact us in advance.
Do you rent BMX bikes?
We also rent BMX bikes. Please note, the amount of BMX bikes is limited, so if you’re looking to rent one, please contact us in advance.
Do you rent touring bikes?
Yes! We have two types of touring bikes. One type is a high-end touring bike, which we recommend rent if you’re planning to go for a few day cycling trip through the Netherlands. We also have an amazing 7 gear standard touring bike, which is perfect for a day trip to the countryside outside the city center. If you’re planning to make a few days trip, please contact us in advance so we can prepare the bikes for your trip.
Do you rent tandem bikes?
Yes. We have few Vintage Tandem bikes, which we recently professionally renovated. The Tandem bike is equipped with a 8-gear Shimano and handbrakes system. Please note, we recommend you to make a reservation for the tandem bike.
Can I rent in a child seat for my rental bike?
Yes, in our store we have few bikes equipped with front and back child seats. So you can take your child (9 months to 6 years). Please contact us in advance for arability.
Do you rent bike safety helmets?
Yes, we also do rent safety helmets. Please note, the amount of the helmets is limited and we recommend you to contact us in advance. In the Netherlands are helmets not required and almost nobody wears helmets because it’s really safe and bike accidents are really rare.

Can I make a reservation on your website for the bike rental?

We do offer group discounts. Are you planning to rent more than 4 bikes? Please send us your request to [email protected] so we can give you the best possible offer.

How do we find your bike rental shop and what are the opening hours?
How do I get to your shop from the Amsterdam airport (Schiphol)?
There’re three options to get from the Airport straight to our shop.
- Take the official cab in front of the Amsterdam Airport or Uber. It will take 25 minutes by car from Amsterdam Airport to our shop in the center in the city.
It will cost you 35 EUR with a normal cab and between 20 – 30 EUR with Uber.
- Take the train from the airport to the Amsterdam Central Station. It’s just one stop from the Airport and will take you 14 minutes and will cost you 4,20 EUR. You can buy the ticket at the airport in the yellow machines. You can pay by most types of cards. From the Central station you can take the = tram number 1, 2 and 5. It will cost you 2,90 for one-hour transport pass which you can purchase in the tram. It’s only 5 tram stop form the central station to our bike shop, around 10 minutes. Go off at the stop Keizersgracht and walk 100 meters to our shop.
- Take the bus 197 which departure in front of the Airport main square and will bring you to the Leidseplein stop (12 stops, ca. 35 minutes). You can buy your bus ticket at the bus stop or in the bus. The ticket costs 5 EUR and you can ony pay by cash. From the Leidseplein bus stop it’s a 7 minute walk to our bike rental shop.
How do I get to your shop from the Central Station?
The easiest way to come to our shopfrom the Central Station is by tram. Trams 1,2 and 5 departures in front of the Central Station and stop in front of our shop (Keizersgracht). It will take you only 10 minutes (5 stops). You can buy your 1-hour transport pass in the tram and will cost you only 2,90 EUR and you can only with cash.

Yes, we’re also open every day during the Christmas and new year period.
